JD McPherson brings his soulful throwback rock n' roll to the intimate stage of Seasick records. Enjoy the swinging sounds of the golden age of rock, while surrounded by the sweet smell of vinyl records.
McPherson's story is intriguing. Starting out as most teenage guitarists, JD dabbled in garage and punk bands during high school. Eventually, as most aspiring musicians realize, it was time to grow up and get a job. But even after pursuing a degree from the University of Tulsa, and teaching art and technology, McPherson could shake his love for music. Especially the music of Buddy Holly and the great artists of the 1950's. He began to chase his dream once again, releasing his 2010 debut smash, Signs and Signifiers. The album featured the song "North Side Gal", which earned JD radio play across the US, and an appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman and Conan.
JD's 2015 follow up, Let the Good Times Roll, brings more of the sound that we have come to expect from him. Tastefully written songs that are full of today's groove, but could easily have been played at the sock hops of yesteryear.
See him perform at the intimate Seasick Records on Sunday, April 2nd, produced by Barbara Jean Sound Machine. This in an all ages event, and tickets are $15 (cash only) at the door. Doors - 6:30pm / Show promptly 7pm.
