Band of the Week: GT
If you have ventured out into any rock club around town, chances are good that you have seen one, or more, of the three members of GT. Frontman, Scotty Lee, can be seen checking ID's and slingin' drinks at Parkside when he's not tearing up the stage. Bassist, Byron Sonnier, is a staple at Saturn; Drummer, Mark Beasley seems to be at every rock show in town, sometimes all at the same time.
Together, GT has grinded out a name for themselves around Birmingham, and the Eastern US, for years. The band formed in 2011, under the all encompassing name "GT". The name has meant many different things. Green Teeth, Ghost Traveler, and finally Get Tryin', all have been used to decribe Lee's one man, arts-and-music, project. This has grown into the power trio that has been destroying stages for the past 6 years. With the support of their label, Communicating Vessels, the band released their LP debut album Beats Misplaced in 2015.
Their music isn't flashy. Sometimes you find yourself holding your breath, expecting the songs to fall apart. That is exactly the charm. Love them, or hate them, there is no dening the raw energy in their art. Warm fuzzy guitars, straight forward vocals, and a driving rthym section, GT has what every garage band starting out is looking for. Their formula is what will keep the next generation of Rock n' Roll inact and healthy.
The band plays their next hometown show on January 15th at The Firehouse (Avondale) with Sailor Poon and Hurl Yeah. (Facebook Event Page) Don't miss a chance to see this solid band of solid guys. GT is the band that future rock stars will cite as their biggest influence.
