Beer, check. Music, check. Ok guys, here we go again. This week we're going to be drinking a beer from Blue Pants Brewery, located right here in Alabama. The crew up in Madison have created their take on a Black IPA called “Tuxedo”. The Black IPA style is also known as Cascadian Dark Ale, or American Dark Ale. This tasty beer can be purchased in a 22 oz. bomber or on draft, I got mine in bottle form.
First thing I noticed when I poured my glass was that this is a dark beer, almost black. I was surprised to see a beer this dark with IPA in the name. I guess that’s where the Black in the title comes in to play. It pours with a nice tan colored head that lingers nicely on the sides of my snifter. It has a citrusy, almost piney hop scent to it. IPA’s are usually not my cup of tea, but this one is pretty nice. Black IPA’s use darker roasted malts compared to the traditional IPA, which is probably why I like it. I get a light hop taste combined with the roasted flavor of the malt, almost like a hoppy porter. With a refreshing mouth feel, I can drink this beer all year long, regardless of the season. A respectable 7% a.b.v. makes this brew easy to drink without much of an alcohol bite. On a scale 1 to 10, I’d give this one a strong 7. The fact that is from Alabama makes me enjoy it that much more.
As far as music goes, I’m listening to a combination of styles just like the beer was. “Cut Me Some Slack” comes from the “Sound City” soundtrack, a documentary from David Grohl. Paul McCartney teams up with members of Nirvana to create this jam. It’s nice seeing Krist Novoselic rock out again.
As I finish off my second glass, don't forget to cut your lights down low, turn your music up loud, and open up a new beer!
